Appointments

Routine appointments are available Monday to Friday and  

may be booked in advance. Simply telephone or call in. To

see a particular doctor or nurse at the surgery and time of

your choosing, please arrange your appointment well in advance.

We are taking steps to ensure your need/enquiry is handled on

the same day by an appropriate member of our practice team.

To cope with this demand patients will find more information is required of them by reception staff and that telephone triage is used. Staff are trained to ask for basic details. 

Local practices who pool their resources will provide alternative settings for certain procedures and patients can elect to use the Walk-in-Centre in Broad St Mall for same day assessment of minor illnesses by appropriately trained staff some of whom will not be doctors.

The WiC is open 365 days of the year from 8am to 8pm. We would ask patients to reserve the A&E Dept for solely life threatening episodes or where there is an immediate need for Xray investigation.

The Out of hours service should only be used in instances of acute illness arising during the night or early morning. Our surgery has an automated appt booking system which operates 24 hours a day. It means patients can book appts even during off peak periods, lessening the burden on staff during the very busy periods of the day

Importantly the system can/should be used to cancel appts  whenever the need arises. Your full co-operation with the above will ensure appropriate use of valuable NHS resources.

Consulting Times

Our doctors routinely run a number of surgeries throughout the week days covering the morning, afternoon and early evening periods. 

To obtain the latest information on surgery times, which can sometimes vary from one week to another, please either call into reception, telephone the surgery or check out our website which is regularly updated.

Home Visits

Patients should make every effort to consult at the surgery to make the best use of nursing and medical time. We appreciate the considerable efforts made by patients to get to the surgery for an appointment.

Home visits must be medically justifiable and not requested for social convenience.

Home visits are arranged at the discretion of the on-call clinician for patients genuinely too ill to travel to either of our two surgeries.

Where the patient, family member or carer believes a home visit is indicated, please try to telephone the surgery before 10.00 am. and supply the name of the patient, their address and a summary of why you are requesting a home visit.

This will assist us in ensuring the request is correctly prioritised and appropriately passed to either the on-call doctor or a member of the community nursing team or to the Duty Team at Social Services or at the Community Mental Health Service

To cancel any pre-existing appointment with us 

Please use the surgery automated appt booking system which operates 24 hours a day.

Accessing the automated telephone system

Ring the main surgery number 0118 9352121 and select to use the automated appt booking system. An option will be given to book, change or cancel a booked GP appointment. Request this option and follow the instructions given. (You can actually cancel any booked appointment with any clinician using this option.)

Please note

Only registered patients already added to our computer system can access the automated appt booking system. To verify your identity, and enable you to use the automated system, it will require your date of birth and your correctly recorded main contact number. If you have difficulties accessing our automated system please contact the reception team during our opening hours to ensure your registration status and contact details are up to date and correct.

Public Transport Links

There are several bus stops in Craven Road near the new hospital main entrance. These are conveniently located close to both our surgery sites.

Car Parking

There is on-site parking at 31 Alexandra Road but only some restricted on-street parking at the far end of the Eldon Square site. Please read the current parking signage when parking in these spaces;disabled parking is permitted on yellow lines and in the allocated disabled space with appropriate blue badge identification used. The car park at our main site in Alexandra Road is an option for our Eldon patients to also utilise should they want to.

Please note our parking facilities should only be used when visiting the surgery for attention.

Cycling to the Surgery

Cycle racks are available for patient and staff use at 31 Alexandra Road and the railings adjacent to the patient entrance can be utilsed at Eldon Square, however please do not block the pathway access for other attending Eldon Square patients.

We recommend cycles are always secured, and we wish to remind our patients that all cycles and vehicles are left at the owners risk at both sites.
